I don't think there's any set regulations yet. Some US airlines charge you extra if you can't fasten your seatbelts, and Ryanair's releasing ad-rumours about charging extra anyone over 100 or 130 kg
Personally, I don't think I'd enjoy the idea of just overcharging tubbies if I don't get any benefits from not being overweight. I like what some people have proposed - "you can carry 100 kg of weight on the plane, be it yourself or your luggage, combined", because the idea of dieting pre-flight to get that few extra books on board sounds highly amusing :)
I do like that last idea of 100kg per person allowed on board in standard price, and - say - each kg above it for some additional €. (I guess €/kg ratio would be highest for Ryanshit and lowest for guys like KLM or Lufthansa). If this would include yourself, anything you bring on board (last time I returned from Poland, I had my oar with me) and the checked-in luggage all together, I would usually have ~12kg of my luggage checked-in for free. ]:-> I think I like it more and more. By tomorrow I may try to start some campaign :D It's just too bad Ireland is affected by the obesity pandemic as well.
