Our identity isn't really defined by clothes and hair, but you are right -- on a certain level it is very much connected. It's one of the few concrete ways we can express ourselves and make ourselves feel comfortable with that person who lives on the inside. As you are still trying to figure out who you are in this new phase of your life, I can really see how extra frustrating it would be to not be able to control those things you used to be able to control and appreciate about yourself

Did you see my comment on your previous hair post a few pages back? I really like the pic on one of your myspaces with the supershort hair - your face is open and brightened up. But its a fact that I've just recently given in to - if you want hair in style you've got to go more often than you would like to the hairdresser. If you had shorter hair like in that pic you could just wash it every day to be fresh and go - no straigtening required.
I've been watching a lot of What Not to Wear and getting some good tips on clothing style. And honey I don't know what woman doesn't have larger hips than their waist, like you said. Things should nip in at the waist but the critical thing is where the jacket/shirt falls lengthwise. We spend too much time hiding our flaws, what we should be doing instead is distracting by accentuating our good points.
I agree about the hair . . . I thought you looked fabulous when it was first growing out and REALLY short. That picture of you and Jacqs at the airport, for instance.
At least when you're pregnant and fat and greasy and tired you know you probably will get yourself back eventually -- I'm certainly wearing the same old clothes I've always worn. You don't know though! Poor thing, sounds not fun.
Get someone whose style you admire and ask them to go shopping with you. You don't have to buy anything, but go to nice shops and try on things you wouldn't normally try on. Ask the person to be honest and also to suggest things you might try. then you'll have a good idea of what suits you and what doesn't, and you can take that knowledge to cheaper shops or op shops if you need to. However, I'm a big believer in having a few really nice things in your closet you can pull out and just know you'll look fantastic. They usually cost a bit more but last better and make you look like a million bucks. Have you seen anyone with a good short haircut lately? Ask them who their hairdresser is. I know how depressing it is to have dreadful hair and what a drain it is on your self-esteem so don't put up with it too long please! A good haircut can change your outlook on life in a drastic way.
I'm feeling really conscious of my clothes and hair right now here in Sweden, it's tough being around hoardes of gorgeous blonds...
