You might like to try some of the newer makeup brands like Bobbi Brown, they are very in to the more 'natural' look. Expensive though... I wish I could do the smoky eye thing but with my dark circles I just look like a panda. :P

I'm having similar problems with my hair - I just don't know what to do with it and I don't necessarily like how it is but what else to do? I want to grow it in to a bob but I'm pretty sure it won't suit me as well as short hair. Argh!

The hair does affect your clothes, I found that my hair was looking more and more punky but my clothes were quite conservative. So I toned down the hair but I think I should have gone the other way really. But that was too scary! There must be a happy medium yes?

ah yes! exactly. short hair can be too conservative and make you look matronly when you really arent... and then the clothes too. maybe you should just let go... dress more punky. thats what i want to do, but the styles this fall are abysmal at best.

We always want to believe that our appearance doesn't make that much difference to who we actually are on the inside -- but it really does make a difference. In a way, it's the outward expression of how we see ourselves, and we if aren't happy with how we are on the outside, it can make us wonder about the inside part. That doesn't really change, nor is it affected by the more superficial things, but we feel like it does -- and that affects us. We like ourselves a certain way, and are comfy with ourselves, and that projects itself into self confidence -- but when something changes that appearance then we are thrown for a loop. I say we, because I run into that feeling now and then, but you have it harder because the change has been rather drastic ( ... )

yes. exactly. i know how i am inside there, i k now how i want to look and present myself on the outside, but i cant find the clothes (tops i mean) that dont make me look matronly with my shorter hair. as ansis said, the hair can be slightly punky, which i like, but the clothes have to match and right now the stores are disappointing at best. they all carry the same stuff, they all cater to teens and preteens and the more quality stuff is too high price to buy the trend. trends come and go.. you dont want to spend money on trends, but on a few 'classic' pieces. but i dont want to be classic yet.

A lot of what I really like at the moment is actually quite simple (and cheap) clothes - neat tshirts and tops and well-cut jeans, and cool shoes. The shoes at the moment are really nice (in my eyes anyways!) and they can really make or break an outfit. I've got enough of a shoe fetish that the rest of my clothes can be meh but if I've got on great shoes I'm happy! How about a really great jacket for winter, a neat scarf that expresses your individuality, and some incredibly cool shoes? Sometimes the teenage stores have good cheap tops that are very in and will suit older women as well if you are in their size range - which you would be. And because you didn't pay much you don't mind if it doesn't hold out past that season. One or two of those sort of things can really brighten your mood. And of course because the 70s and 80s are back in again you might score at the local op-shop.

And yeah, go curly and dark - you know how much I LOVED your hair short and curly last year!

Ohh, this all sounds like good advice! Except the shoe part, since I can't get past my boyish habit of wearing one favorite paid for the season ... but the simple way to go sounds like the best way to go while you're still figuring things out.

I didn't know regular people wore eye shadow these days ...

:P

trying to reinvent yourself hey? hm, not an easy one. Not a bad idea to get some help, like you did with your make-up.

and if you like your hair darker... that's pretty easy to do. hm, I can see you with very dark hair ... and a red streak :-)

Guess you'll just have to keep dashing in and out of stores, try several things. See what you feel comfortable in ...

hugs
