To reason like a madman, to understand Lucas, you must be a madman.

When Luke first gets to Dagobah, home of the green boy, he comments, "Still...there's something familiar about this place." The reason? Most likely because he was, as in infant, along for the ride when they dropped off Yoda, or, at least, still as an infant, "met" Yoda, and recognized him later in life entirely based on his feelings of their meeting. He's strong in the force, so, hey, infant remembering powers.

So...

Princess Leia: Luke, what's wrong?
Luke: Leia, do you remember your mother? Your real mother?
Princess Leia: Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.
Luke: What do you remember?
Princess Leia: Just... images really. Feelings.
Luke: Tell me.
Princess Leia: She was... very beautiful. Kind, but sad. Why are you asking me this?
Luke: I have no memory of my mother. I never knew her.

And I'd say that describes pretty well the three seconds Leia knew Padme. Leia was very young, and gets brief glimpses of her mom. Mommy was Natalie ( ... )
