The thing is, I decided to become vegetarian maybe two months ago. Okay, that's not entirely accurate. R decided she had to become vegetarian after watching a video about farm animal conditions on youtube, and I agreed that I would also become vegetarian but, no, I wouldn't watch the movie. I decided to take it on faith that it was horrific ( Read more... )

I think keeping your head in the sand is very wise. R has some friends who are really militant animal welfare activists (not that there's anything wrong with that!) and while I respect their position vis-a-vis animal welfare, I can't help thinking they're having an undue influence on my diet.

It's rough: we all cut ourselves to fit the cloth of our relationships, everybody needs to compromise, and it's nice to have the people closest to us be compatible with us in some fundamental ways.

But also, that sounds like an extremely challenging reason to be vegetarian.

I like that part of being in a relationship that means you shape yourself to someone else in areas where you can be malleable, and they shape to you in areas where you can't. For me the point of a relationship is change.

Maybe.

Personally I have no problem with being a vegetarian. And I think in some ways it is the "right" thing to do. I'm not wedded to either position really, so I guess it's an area I'm malleable in :)

Don't know if you know this, but I'm a vego. *Gasp* Haven't eaten red meat in 16 years... Have been on-and-off with seafood and chicken, but last 2-3 years, nada meat and feelin' fine! Matt's the same - he read a PETA book a few years ago, and we went full-veg together.

Umm... wish I had something profound or advice-like to offer you, but I've got nothing! Oh - B12... it seems harder for me to get into my system than even iron. So if you start feeling flat, crack a B vitamin a day.

Also, if you decide to eat meat again - no judgement! lol.

Hmmm... I think I've heard about the benefits of adding some B12 to your diet if you're feeling a little lacklustre. I think Rach already tops up with it from time to time.

As for the vegetarianism, I feel going full veggie is probably a matter of working up to it for me.

16 years! Kudos!
