Personality | Matsumoto is a curvaceous and charming woman, her ample breasts are without a doubt what people notice first. These massive globes give her back problems and make it very difficult to sleep, but she's proud of them regardless, otherwise she wouldn't let them hang out. The typical uniform of a shinigami is there, but Matsumoto always makes sure to display her breasts generously, the downside being their increased chance of popping out. Even though she's stuck in her uniform most of the time fashion is certainly not something that escapes her thoughts, as a matter of fact she loves it. During the occasional trip to the realm of the humans it would not be odd to find Matsumoto shopping for anything from hats to shoes. She's completely confident with her body and appearance, it's obvious in the way she presents herself; without even having to think about it her movements are fluid and graceful, she rarely slouches or frowns, and most definitely loves to look good.
The lieutenant of the 10th division of the Gotei 13 is also a strong and confident woman; she didn't get her title for nothing after all. Although she's not loud about it Matsumoto makes it known that she is no woman to be trifled with if she has to--perhaps Kira Izuru understands this better than anyone. She does not brag about her skills, strength or what her zanpakuto is capable of, like many others she prefers to keep tight lipped until she's ready for action; it's just so much more interesting to catch opponents and the likes unawares, especially since she is a woman. While she prefers to be calm and happy most of the time, she can be tough as nails if she needs or wants to be, luckily it takes a decent amount to push her over the edge so the claws are usually ticked in. Her modesty when it comes to her shinigami skills has made up for in how she presents herself in other situations, she's usually the happy go lucky type. Again, Matsumoto is comfortable with herself and her body, and when it comes to expressing her individuality or feminine charms, she flaunts them, she's got them.. why not? She's so comfortable with herself that complaining about her large breast size and back problems isn't embarrassing for her, even though it may be for others. She knows she is beautiful, and she isn't above using that to her advantage to get drinks or other goodies, she's a master at it and talents like that are best not wasted. Some might consider bold flirting as a sign of desperation, but that isn't the case for Matsumoto -- if she's flirting she either wants something you have or maybe she has a genuine interest. As beautiful as she may be, Matsumoto isn't some self absorbed air head, she's actually friendly and fun loving.
As an easy going and free spirited individual Matsumoto can get along with pretty much everyone; she is also very open minded, which only makes her easier to get along with. It helps that she enjoys listening to others and engaging in casual chat, of course letting loose a bit isn't out of the question. If she wants to drink she'll gather up anyone who is free and willing and later get them to buy her drinks -- Abarai Renji, Hisagi Shuhei, and Kyoraku Shunsui are only a handful of shinigami Matsumoto has made drinking mates out of. The girl can't help it, she loves to drink and have a good time, which is not unusual considering she is a shinigami in the prime of her youth. Matsumoto isn't just some bum who just leeches off of others, she shares her own sake and tasty treats with others quite simply because she loves company. People are drawn to Matsumoto, but she's also drawn to them. She was dragged out of a horrible and lonely place by Ichimaru Gin, so she eagerly opens herself up to the friendship of others.
Shinigami don't sit in circles and share feelings with each other, in a man's world Matsumoto has learned to keep her lips zipped about private matters, not that she would want to share anyway. She doesn't deny her feelings so much as she tries to push them to the wayside; if anything she does nothing more than quietly mull over them mentally. When she discovered her oldest friend, Ichimaru Gin had betrayed her and the rest of the Gotei 13 she was crushed, but just as determined to not let it bother her. Even if those close to her can understand her feelings, she isn't likely to discuss them or display them in any manner. Professional and personal lines are not meant to be crossed, Matsumoto easily cast aside their years of friendship for the sake of her captain, squad, and everyone apart of the Gotei 13. Being a lieutenant puts her in a role model position, and Matsumoto has always been serious to living up to her rank; sure she may be a little lazy when it comes to paper work, but when it comes to setting an example, she always does her best. Above all others Matsumoto trusts and respects her captain, Hitsugaya Toshiro, the most. Not only is he the finest captain she's ever had the pleasure of serving under, but he treats her like an equal and sees past her looks; it helps that Hitsugaya isn't even the slightest bit interested in that. Matsumoto is usually at her captain's side, and there isn't a thing she wouldn't do for him, literally.

Character Abilities/Powers | Spiritual Pressure: Matsumoto emits lieutenant level spiritual pressure; she's more powerful than a fair few shinigami. Spiritual pressure usually makes a shinigami stronger, the more a person trains the more powerful they become; but spiritual pressure isn't just about fighting. Because of her spiritual powers Matsumoto can see spirits that would normally be hidden to the naked eye. Matsumoto becomes hungry, which is a for sure sign of having spiritual powers.
Kido: Kido are spells a shinigami uses for anything from attacking to binding a person. While Matsumoto does not often resort to Kido she is capable of performing the spells and identifying them on site. It's safe to assume her skills in kido are average for that of a lieutenant.
Flash Step (shunpo): Shunpo is a skill shinigami use to travel long distances in a short time. A flash step may cover 100 feet, yards or even a mile, depending on how skilled a shinigami becomes. Matsumoto is able to keep up with her own captain when it comes to flash stepping, but it is not likely she would be able to keep up after an extended period of time. She's at a lieutenant level - faster than most, but lightyears from being as good as those above her.
In addition to all of these Matsumoto has increased strength and endurance. Like most shinigami she can suffer some pretty serious damage before she's in danger of dying. She has been trained expertly how to handle a sword, and knows her Haineko like the back of her hand (or so she likes to think).
Haineko: Matsumoto's zanpakuto is one of the most interesting in all of the Gotei 13; during it's shikai release her blade turns to ash and cuts anyone that it comes in contact with. She is capable of surrounding her enemies with the ash, and creating funnels with it. She controls the ash with the hilt of the sword and can send it in any direction with a flick of her wrist; each speck of ash acts like a tiny blade. It's similar to Byakuya's zanpakuto.. just with ash and not flowers.
Weaknesses/Fears | Matsumoto is a lazy bum, she avoids paper work like the plague and enjoys a good nap way more than the next guy. That's not even half of it though, strong as she may be Matsumoto doesn't really do much to push herself. She's not crazy with the training like say Ichigo or Renji -- she's held the same position for a while now and was even lieutenant before Hitsugaya was promoted captain; the girl just does not push herself. Well that's not entirely true... it takes something pretty monumental to get Matsumoto's butt into gear. She started seriously training to achieve bankai only after Aizen and co. betrayed all of the Gotei 13. Slowly but surely Matsumoto is trying to conditioning to become stronger, the war with Aizen has brought out her fighting spirit, her drive to improve hasn't waned yet, and it won't if she's got anything to say about it.
Admittedly Gin is a weakness of her's, and no matter how much she wishes that weren't true it is. As the face of her salvation it is impossible for her to let him go -- in battle he is always there lingering in the back of her mind. Matsumoto can claim that Gin's presence doesn't bother her for an eternity, but that's simply not true. Her undying desire to get to the bottom of his betrayal, and to hear the explanation in his own words is a powerful driving force. Matsumoto would be crazy enough to pursue Gin with a giant, unhealed would (she actually did, just at a later canon point than chapter 336. The intent was always there, and that's what matters). In a nutshell, she won't be able to shake her feelings until she has some closure.

First-person | [ It only takes Matsumoto about an hour to figure out the communication device.. well at least how to make a voice post... she thinks. She turns the device on and clears her throat quietly; her tone of voice is a bit shaken, but injuries coupled with new worlds can do that to a girl. ]
Dropped into a new place without even a drop of sake. My, my, that's disappointing. [ Matsumoto is not going to introduce herself because she doesn't want strangers in an unknown place bothering her. Besides those who know her will recognize her voice... maybe. ]
There must be someone out there who is kind enough to help a girl out. [ Despite her injuries she can't help but lay on the charm; she's a flirt. In any case sake makes everything better... especially when half of you is missing and you've been transported to a new place. ] I'm near the beach if you're close by. [ She's been stuck in the same place since her arrival and hopes that many, many others are near the beach. ]
Third-person | I'm not... dead? Matsumoto could feel hands on her body, but it was no use trying to wake up completely her deep sleep, memories of her fresh wound only came rushing back. The memory of the searing pain that turned into uncomfortable numbness, the cold sweat dripping from every pore, and the shock from glimpsing at her fatal wound knocked her out again. Matsumoto was thankful that at least while she was sleeping everything was painted black.

The shinigami stirred from her sleep after hours (or maybe even days?), there were no longer hands on her, and the pain from her wound had lessened considerably; more importantly there was no more uncomfortable numbness. It was bright and there was a warm breeze passing through the room; it was wonderful. Of course memories assaulted Matsumoto when her fingertips ran over the bandages wrapped around her waist. Who did this, she tried to guess as she forced herself to sit up carefully. She did not expect to find a stranger in the place of someone she assumed was an ally; she gripper her zanpakuto instinctively, but did not draw it right away. She was too distracted by the first aid kit next to him.
"You did this?" She touched her bandages surprised at how distant her own voice seemed to sound? The man nodded, it was then that she noticed just how handsome he was. "Thank you." Matsumoto breathed quietly, releasing her grip in her zanpakuto. She turned her head in either direction and then looked back at the man, "Where have you taken me?"
Rather than answering her directly he dived into a long winded explanation about where she was, what would happen, and what was expected of her. He handed her a map and an electronic communication device -- she could only stare back speechlessly. What the hell? She had no choice but to except these conditions, and furthermore a mark in the middle of her face would not be flattering at all. How long until she will even be able to have sex with her injuries? Matsumoto wasn't at all interested in mixing pleasure with the pain beneath her waist, surely there was some sort of loop hole for those who are severely injured upon arrival. Then again, Matsumoto was sure she'd be subject to all of the same rules since her wounds had already been patched up. She doubted that a person like her captain would be here, which was depressing enough, so she is holding onto the hope that someone else she knows might be lingering about.
