Hey Barb,

Good to hear from you! And well, you know I'm not one for etiquette, so Abby works just fine.

Trust me, I know nutty. Better than I'd like to. You are perhaps the farthest from nutty I know. Swimming, crosswords, and a master's program? If those made up nutty there'd be no sane.

Honestly, if you're asking my opinion? Go for it. Hell, I know what it's like to be in school for what seems like forever. It's not easy and it sucks sometimes...But if it's what you really want, don't let age or nuttiness or anything (or anyone) else keep you from it. It's worth it in the end.

And please feel free to tell me to shut up, because this is perhaps my least favorite question to be asked, but...is everything all right? If you need to talk more to someone who's very...distracted herself, keep emailing, or you've got my number, call anytime. Really. I'm a resident and have a baby; I never sleep.

Abby,

Thank you so much for the vote of confidence. Nikki doesn't seem to think I can handle it, though really it's only ten credits because I'm not fully matriculated into the program.

But those distractions, I don't want to burden you with those. You have your career and your sweet new family to worry about. How is your little one? My youngest is in summer school, she just needs to catch up a bit.

Barb,

In my experience, a lot of people will try to tell you you won't be able to handle it. In the end, it just matters that you're confident about it. I obviously don't know you as well as Nikki does, but I really don't know why you wouldn't handle it well.

Barb, you're not a burden, really. I wouldn't say you can spill to me if I thought it'd be too much. Up to you, though, of course.

Lily's good. She's such a sweetheart, completely a Daddy's girl, though Lee insists she's more like me. She's nine months now, starting to talk; Mama was her first word and Lee is ecstatic now that she's finally started saying Dada too.

I bet your other kids are happy about summer break. Good luck to your youngest; it can't be easy going to school in the summer but good that she's getting caught up.

Abby,

I've decided that I'm definitely going back to school. I have to do this for me. I need something that's my own because, oh...gosh I don't even know how to say this but my marriage certainly isn't my own any more.

I don't know what happened really but it's like I've suddenly woken up and realized that the marriage I had to Bill for 12 years is over. It's just...over.

And now that I've dumped that on you, I apologize. Gosh darnit, you don't need me telling you about the complicated mess my marriage is when you have such a happy, healthy one with that doctor husband of yours.

I'm glad your little girl is talking now, it's such a fun age. Lester, Margie's littlest (well almost littlest..she and Bill are having another baby) talks nonstop these days. He's just precious.
