Lately, I have to admit that I've had a lot of mixed feelings about what the US has been doing in Iraq. What is done, I cannot change. I may not agree with the decision, but there are some "sidebars" that bug me. Recently I got an email from someone that used to work with me (a retired State Police and Army guy) with a letter attached. This letter

Personally I'm a believer in an old method used for prisonners of war that involved treating them as good as possible. It usually makes for some very loyal traitors later on.
I don't know if this is making any sense. That letter was an eyeful. My leftist tendancies are still kicking in.

I think, more than any other thing listed here, this attitude is what tends to piss people off about the USA.
It's not that retribution (or, "justice") should not be persued. It's the "I don't give a shit. This is what we are going to do and you have to live with it." attidude. After all, he talks about how before they became prisoners that the soldiers were trying to kill them (as they were enemy troups). However, it completly skips over the first part: WHAT IN THE GODS NAMES WERE/ARE THE AMERICANS DOING THERE?
I may agree with the end results if things clean up in Iraq. I do not however condone the actions taken to get there.
So yeah... as stated by amazonchicken, I think my leftist tendancies are now going into serious overdrive! ;).

I mean, I tend to be very leftist too - and I do wonder a lot about what $160 Billion US could do to really help those in need as opposed to attacking those we don't agree with.

Invasion is a good word for it. Illegally invading and "liberating" another country because you don't agree with their political system is inexcusable.
What also has me worried is how dependent Canada is on the US. They are our biggest export partner (while we are pretty insignificant on their economica radar, only showing up as blips every now and then when we complain about soft wood lumber tarrifs.) We can only say no to them so many times before we will also be punished (though, economically, not, likely, invaded!)
On a slightly different note:
Remind me next time we get together to bring you "The Decline of the American Empire" and "The Barbarian Invasions". Excellent philisophical Quebecois films.
Have you read The Handmaid's Tale by any chance? It is far, far better than the movie and I highly recommend it.

I doubt George will invade Canada - there aren't any Weapons of Mass Destruction up here right? Well, unless you count "Kurds" cheese (Ok I know that was royally bad, but I try).
