Tips and Tricks for Ice Skating in (and out of) Lolita:

- Footwear: What you wear on your feet is really important when you're ice skating. If you plan on renting figure skates (the girly kind that Olympic skaters wear, not hockey skates), leave your super-thick socks at home! Contrary to popular belief, it's a poor idea to wear thick socks when skating, because thick socks can negatively affect the fit of your boot, and can cause you to rent a pair of skates that don't fit you well. Stockings and trouser socks are probably your best bet for footwear. Since you'll be moving around, your feet won't get cold, and with a well-fitted pair of skates, you're much less likely to take an unintended tumble.

- Leg wear: Because it is especially cold out this time of year, simply wearing a pair of pantyhose won't suffice to keep your legs warm. Look for a pair of *footless* sweater tights, or other thick footless tights to wear over your stockings or trouser socks. It is absolutely imperative that these be footless, because as I mentioned before, thick socks can affect how your skates fit. If you don't plan on wearing a skirt or dress, be sure to pick out a warm, comfortable pair of jeans or pants that you can move freely in. Try to avoid very long pants, as well as pants with a lot of rivets or buttons on them, as rivets and buttons can cause unseemly bruises if you fall.

- Undergarments: If you're wearing Lolita, be sure to put on a pair of bloomers or shorts over your tights, and consider wearing your poofiest petti for this meetup, because poof provides an excellent cushion against a fall. Also, consider wearing UnderArmor or thermal underwear underneath your coordinate, as this type of clothing provides extra warmth without the extra bulk.

- Outerwear: Bulky clothing is the enemy of free movement on the ice, and while it may be tempting to pile on layer after layer of heavy clothing for this meetup, doing so can make it harder for you to move around and can affect your balance. Instead of a lot of heavy clothing, layer your coordinate with a warm sweater and a jacket or coat made of fleece or wool. If you own a winter Lolita coat or jacket, this is a good opportunity to wear it, but be sure that you can still move around in it. Don't forget your mittens, or scarf, either! Keep in mind that once you begin moving around on the ice, you will warm up.

- Skates: Skates, like a good pair of shoes, should hug your feet 'just right', and shouldn't have a lot of extra room at the toe or the heel. When renting figure skates, ask for your usual shoe size, and go from there. Skates should be laced tightly, and should provide good support around your ankle. If a pair feels too tight, bring them back, and ask for the next half size up. If a pair is too loose after you've laced them up, try lacing them tighter. If your figure skates are still too loose, or if they have too much room in the toes, go a half size smaller. Should the skate rental place run out of the size you need, try asking for your corresponding size in Men's (or Women's) skates. Remember that your size in Men's is two sizes smaller than your size in Women's (US Women's 8 = Men's 6). Also bear in mind that figure skates are different from hockey skates, as they are designed for different purposes.

In addition to those tips I suggest that anyone skating bring an extra pair of plain socks to put over their other socks/tights/ect so they are not damaged buy the skate.
And I stress that Comfort is the key,  Even if it is a 'warmer' day it is still cold and we will be outside for awhile so remember to dress warm.

Holy mother of god I'm bad at spelling EVERYONE FORGIVE ME
