Getting a more complete financial picture of Stay-At-Home parenting

Now that more of my friends have kids, it's interesting to see how couples choose to divide up paid employment vs childcare. My favorite so far is the Bensons, who each work at paid employment a few days of the week, so they take turns with childcare. It looks like the Kullas do something similar. I'm glad we're the favorite! But I'm pissed off lately at shared childcare. The afternoon time we THREE have spent together this summer is equal to ONE afternoon, on fathers day, at the zoo, and we were kind of snippy that day... Probably because I was all WEHAVETOHAVETHEBESTTIMEEVER and that's pretty annoying.

I'm ready to submit to daycare. And we're getting a car, for christs sake. One can't pick up craigslist finds without one!!!

Related to family life: know of any rentals? We would love being your neighbors!

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side! I'll keep my eyes peeled for rentals. We would LOVE to have you guys as neighbors! How many beds/baths are you looking for?

2 bedrooms, 1 bath is the minimum requirement.

I of course love the economic analysis. I think there are probably a few difficult to measure, but still real, monetary consequences of all choices. Like how much does sleep deprivation cost? And how much does the joy of having huge periods of bonding time with your offspring earn in terms of life satisfaction?
