I feel like, for me at least, Gaga has reached that point where her shit is just getting too weird to the point where I find myself being irritated, rather than charmed, by it.
I liked the dancing parts and that was pretty much it, tbh. Dancing has always been the strongest points of her videos.
Probably doesn't help that I really hate this song, tbh.
I'm not sure I'd say that she's getting too weird (actually, in some ways I wish she would push the envelope more, especially musically) but I feel like her shit is getting too self-indulgent, maybe. Like this little monsters thing is turning into a cult, and it's just bullshit. I think she's trying to create a mythology around herself, which is interesting in theory but actually quite pedestrian in practice.
I think the reason why the Bad Romance video worked so well was because it was an interesting idea (who makes a pop video about sex trafficking, seriously?) with simple and coherent imagery, and it was all done within standard pop video conventions. That's what I was hoping she'd deliver with this, and she just hasn't.
BTW is definitely not her greatest song. At first I couldn't get over how cheesy it was, then I went through a brief period of LOVING it, but I got bored quite quickly. I had really high hopes for this album but I've started to revise them down a bit.

Agreed. Also, I wish she would take more chances musically, but I like her other videos better, tbh.

Mte.

This video would be better if it told the story through the visuals, rather than through a clunky voiceover. (Again, this is what the Bad Romance video got right. I'm starting to think she'll never top it.)
I think the problem is that she's probably surrounded herself with yes men at this point, when what she really needs is for someone to sit her down and have a quiet word with her. Someone needs to rein her in.
I think you've summed up what I think. That, and I just keep wanting her to EAT SOMETHING. Seriously, I'm sure she wasn't that skinny in her earlier vids.
