If you think genes have nothing to do with overweight, then your being uninformed is not my problem.
Thank you. Very true. Very, very true.
If you believe that genetics just means looking like one or both sides of the family, then you really don't know a lot about it.
Yes. Precisely. This is why doctors don't just look at mother and dad - they like to see detailed histories as far back as possible. Phenotypes? Not everything.
If you think that being overweight is an easy thing to change, I really hope you someday have to deal with hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, or a medication like Depakote.
As someone who has two of the three things you mentioned (I take Depakote, and have hypothyroidism), I really would like to see someone who constantly bitches at people to lose weight to take Depakote for a few months.
I can name about five people off the top of my head on my flist that write just as much if not more than I do about their health, and as a result, we all learn a lot from each other. I'm interested in their posts. They're

I'm with you on this and also the genes can kick in at any point in your life. You may be cocky and confident one day and then all of a sudden it will slam you in the ass.
Fuck those bitches that think otherwise and they will seriously get theirs eventually. And I will be there to laugh at their overconfident and naive asses.
- piroshki often posts about the, "Oh that wasn't about you..." phenomenon....
Ahh, the Work-Hens...
If I have something to say to somebody, I say it. You know that. Anybody on my f-list knows it, and if they haven't figured it out by now, they haven't been reading a damned thing I've posted over the last seven years. (Which isn't my problem. I can lead people to knowledge. I can't make them think, no matter how often I beat them with the DUH-stick.) I can't think of a single person who's spent more than five minutes in my presence who would call me "passive" about anything, not even the Everybody Has A Happy-Shiny Side nuthatches. It's yet another reason the hens are convinced I'm a Man (With Missing Parts).
So, if you can't 'fess up and say what you mean, don't fucking say anything. Cutesy mis-direction only makes you look more like an idiot than you did to begin with, which I think we can all admit was pretty damned bad. Anyway, I really did want to go to your wedding. Now I wish I could have even more. I love playing with the feeble

If it's convenient for you, can you give me more info on Depakote to give to Andrew? I will be Googling it, but if you have anything that you feel is especially helpful, I would like to see it.
Andrew is getting very depressed because of his increasing weight, and while I try to talk sense to him, he really buys into a lot of myths about fat and health and dieting.
No problem. You can pass the following on verbatim.
"I'm not going to deny it - Depakote is a harsh medication. The thing is, it does what it does very well. That's why it's a first-line med for a lot of conditions

If you think genes have nothing to do with overweight, then your being uninformed is not my problem. As a scientist who has actually looked at the research, I know otherwise. If you believe that genetics just means looking like one or both sides of the family, then you really don't know a lot about it. My parents both have brown eyes, while I have gray eyes. This is just ONE simple genetic element.
I don't know shit about genetics, but well, duh. *HEADDESKS* That said, I feel sorry for someone who has truly bought into the "diet myth." Seriously. It's so limited and fucked up. :/
it's really fucked up to suggest that a former anorectic should "do something" about being overweight. Maybe you should "do something" about having no compassion for others.
FUCK YES. Rude and mean, but also way triggering. Seriously. I want to kill people who pull this shit.
You don't "understand" vegetarians--not surprising. Many of them (which includes me and Brian) are vegetarian NOT for health reasons, but because we do not want to contribute to

I don't want children, and I don't want to be around them all the time, but that doesn't mean I abhor their presence.
Except for the first bit, that's me, and I'm a parent. :) And seriously, if you were one of those "OMG! HAHAHAChild abuse! Ew I saw a breeder in the park today!Wah!Some little crotchnugget read the newHarry Potter book before me!" people, I wouldn't consider you a friend. Not because of "OMG! How can anyone not like babies/want children?" but because, way to make with the stupid. It REALLY shits me up with walls when people assume that all parents are moronic sheep who just act like their offspring are more important than anyone else in the entire universe (and that it revolves around them) just as it annoys the crap out of me when people assume that all childfree folks are those wanky nutballs who despise kids and yell "Breeder!" at people. Seriously, I've come across both types, but they're definitely not an accurate representation of either group.

You know how I feel about child abuse (and neglect, etc)--I feel very strongly that if you aren't ready to be a parent, or you don't want a child, then you shouldn't have one. In that way, I suppose you could say I am pro-abortion, even. I'd rather you have an abortion than have a child that you're going to psychologically or physically abuse or neglect.
Nothing upsets me more than innocents being treated badly--but that goes for animals and people of all ages, too.
