Really weird. I don't understand how it could be a breast pump either.

simple.. they said it has a hole in the bottom for "formula" to be added (um, formula wasnt invented in those days... ) more likely the woman would stick her nipple in the bottom hole, then suck on the spout to create the suction needed to express the milk, which could then be fed to a baby with the same instrument.
