Broken

I broke my ankle about two months ago. Not a big break, an "occult fracture", which means it couldn't be seen on a standard x-ray, but broken nonetheless. I have not been allowed to climb (and indeed I don't think I could have if I wanted to for some of that time). Riff away, but I think your problem is with the use of the term "occult" to refer to woo, rather than its (I think) more appropriate usage to refer to that which is hidden. I think it kind of makes sense in the medical terminology whereas not so much in the woo bent ( ... )

However, one thing I learned when I first started training karate, as said to me by one of my first senseis (a hot little blond number who could seriously kick ass) was that everyone has something to teach you. The highest, most skilled black belt of course has something to teach you. But so does the rawest, most novice white belt - even if what he's teaching is, "Don't do this, you'll get hit."

If you have to teach someone who's never climbed before but is eager and interested, would that work? Once they're able to belay/spot (okay, lead belaying takes a lot more skill obviously) then isn't that enough? Especially if you enjoy their company, or at least, if they show up?
