College days are here to stay

Yay! I've survived nearly two weeks of classes! I'm actually pretty psyched about them. My German course is going well, even if I have to cram vocab every single night. I used up 200 index cards within a week making flashcards!!! Unfortunately, my previous German education's a bit uneven, so the teacher assumes that I'll know actual grammar and ( Read more... )

You should add to your list of things to do "visiting Faculty Club." And I'm glad to hear CS is going smoothly.

Wha hah! I've found your lj, and I'm here with links! First you must go read SHOEBOX! SHOEBOX is fantastic, and deserves to be worshipped! It's maurauders era Remus/Sirius with good characterization, pretty bits of art, and a peter pettigrew that is actually there and not simply an evil rat. Right: shoebox_project!!

You got to watch Chushingura? I didn't even know they made a *movie* out of that!! I saw the bunraku, and it was *excellent* - It's super-famous becaus it kicks *ass*. Did you get to watch the scene where the women meet? And try to kill each other for the shake of their families' honor? ooooh. It wa sthe neatest thing ever in the theater!

P.S> I found you! ha! you shall never escape our clutches! bwahahahahahahahahaha

I definitely would have noticed if anything THAT interesting happened in the movie version I saw. Apparently, a different movie version was made almost annually for a very long time; there are hundreds of versions (some of which are just different editing of the same footage!). It's a very "Japanese" movie, to which most ascribe its complete incomprehensibility and lack of interest to Western audiences.

Time would kick your ass if he heard you say that. Chushingura is brilliant, and one of our favorite of the classics. I found it entirely comprehensible, even when done with puppets. It makes sense, if you know the basic plot. I didn't even see the whole, just walked in on the second act, and I *still* got most of it. The good guys rock, the bad guys are *eeevil*, and the poor women get caught in the middle.

yes, I think "visiting faculty club" should replace "inviting assassins over to kill your room mate." ~_^ just kidding, no hard feelings, bill. Good luck.

You've made 200 flash cards... with pretty pictures on them. That takes about twice as long as making ugly flashcards, which is what I do.

<3 you

I didn't think you'd let her invite me over to begin with! Or if so, I thought you'd at least make her unlock the door slowly. And she said she'd take me up on the offered bribe of food/chocolate/or tea sometime.
