I started school yesterday. So far classes are going well. I've been to 3 as of right now and I have one more at 1:00 today. Linear Algebra is definitely going to be a challenge as most of my math classes. French will be easy cuz we're starting from the beginning...time to brush up on the basics that I've forgotten over the years. Photography is ( Read more... )

I took the MTEL for math and generic literacy, and I hadn't studied math for about 4 years, and I passed it. My score was not terrific, but if you're up on all your subjects you should be fine. I just reread an algebra book.

When I went to take the MTEL it said to take exit 20 off 128. When I had signed up for the test, I had this idea that the exit was north, but then I'm like, wow, exit 20 is really close, and I drove south and realized that I was in Newton...that I was thinking 95/128 and I really had to go WAY north after the 95/128 split to this random town. Luckily I was a little early to the first location, so I called my mom crying and asked directions and then flew an hour's drive in just under 45 minutes. Ahem. I have never been so illegal on the road. I made it with 5 minutes to spare...meaning most people had filled out their paperwork by then!

I feel much better than I did before. Thanx Liz :) If you passed after 4 years not studying math...then I guess should be ok!

My one word of advice is pace the test well. I spent way too much time trying to reverse engineer a bunch of problems (meaning, trying to remember how math works) the first hour, and you should really leave a full hour at the end for the two open problems. So, go in and figure out how many questions you have and divide that number by three, and then make sure you stay on track for that. You have four hours, do the problems in the first three hours and the open ended in the last hour, if there's extra time you can check your work. I was there for the full four hours, last to leave. The two people who left just before me were also there for the math, my proctor said. Everyone else left an hour early haha.

I don't think I actually knew 75% (my score) of the material but I was able to guestimate and eliminate a lot, and I think that boosted my score.

Hey Josh.

Ya, it was Susan who got a job at northbridge. She's getting paid the wage of a long term sub b/c she doesn't have her bachelor's yet, but she has a full 5 classes and what not.

Good luck on the MTEL.

I haven't started teaching anything yet. I'm really nervous that I'm not gonna know everything, especially since I'm working with the older department head. But, we'll see how things go.

Finally, I wasn't about to pay $100 to park on campus for 1 day a week for 3 hours, so I'm parking on the street.

Oh, and Aisiku's class doesn't seem to be all that bad. just 3 papers, which is like nothing. If only he would grade fairly. Susan is the only other person i know in there.....80% of the kids are grad students, so I'll be sticking with her. WISH YOU WERE THERE!!

Good luck this semester Josh!

At least you aren't at my school, where parking costs some ridiculous amount like $40 per month. (Luckily I live in walking distance.)

Oh! I can one up you all. I believe to park at Northeastern is approximately $80 a month. Fortunately, I refuse to drive to the middle of Boston (and for that matter, don't really have the means...)

Rock on MBTA!
