Am so tired that my right eye is twitching, and my voice has disintegrated into a weak croak. But! It was all in a VERY GOOD cause. ♥
Met up with
treehavn,
goldatamera, and a few unsuspecting friends and family in the pub beforehand to consume a few beers - HELLO GIRLS! - and then onto the gig, which was at a new venue in Saaaf London called The Coronet. Rather than being the small place I expected, it turned out to hold around 2000 people. So. And it started raining the minute we left the pub, so we arrived there looking like drowned rats - it's one thing to leave a gig looking damp and bedraggled, and quite another to get there in that state, especially on a warm and humid evening. I rather think there was steam coming from my armpits, although I suspect none of you really wanted to know that :)
And so we waited for Dirty Pretty Things to come on stage.
And we waited some more.
And maybe just a bit longer.
And ooh, maybe we've just got time to nip to the loo before it starts.
And p'raps to the bar on the way back.
Yup, plenty of time.
Eventually, at 9:45pm (!!), Russell Brand turns up to introduce them. RUSSELL BRAND. How I loathe that man. And so did the rest of the crowd, it seemed, as I haven't heard such a prolonged amount of booing since Ronaldo took out Rooney at the World Cup. And then finally, at 10pm, Dirty Pretty Things make their way onto the stage.
From then on it's a bit of blur, what with the shouting and the singing and the jigging on the spot and the getting elbowed and the waving of my pint in the air.
Bits that I remember: Carl was looking FIIIIIIIIINE, RAWR. White v-neck tshirt, dark jeans and obligatory leather jacket. And thank fuck that union jack has gone from around his arse as it really did inhibit the oogling. STAAAAAAAAN*. ♥ Wearing a red polo shirt thing (oddly), skinny, skinny black jeans and his cuddly black hooded jacket with the badges. I LOVE YOU!!! MARRY ME!!11! I WILL MAKE YOU CAKE! Didz!
eirefaerie - he was wearing his SCHOOLBOY OUTFIT. I did cheer on your behalf. GARY! Wearing black trackie bottoms, just for a change (I think Carl has finally performed an intervention on the fluorescent green ones).
They played what I think was the first hearing of 'Chinese Dog' (? I think), which is the b-side to the next single - Stan sings! Quite quietly, it turns out, but SINGING! I honestly couldn't tell you if the song was any good or not because I was all 'Eeeee, DUET!' but it was v. different to the style of the album. And STAN! WITH THE SINGING OF LEAD VOCALS! With his curly mop covering his big brown eyes, and my crush has now reached EPIC PROPORTIONS.
At one point, Carl said something to the crowd which went along the lines of 'Mumble, mumble, mumble, met this guy, mumble, please welcome, mumble, PAUL WELLER!' And then Paul Weller did indeed come on the stage! That's some fucking extra special guest, if you ask me. He played guitar with Stan on 'Gin and Milk', definitely one of the highlights of the night, and the two of them were kind of whirling around each other and just. *sigh* He came back on for the encore, and they covered 'In The City' which apparently Paul hasn't played live for 26 years?
THEY DIDN'T PLAY 'DEATH ON THE STAIRS'. I blame the Weller. Although they did play 'I Get Along', which was ACE. Who do I have to sleep with to get them to play 'Vertigo' in December? I would sell my soul to the devil to hear that live again.
Am really looking forward to seeing the photos from last night, as there was a rather touching amount of tender hugging between Carl and Anthony. Oh boys, you really do invite trouble, don't you? LOVE.
*For the uninitiated - Anthony and Stan are the same person; Stan is his nickname which we've all adopted :)
HELLO DIRTY PRETTY THINGS ARE THE BEST THING EVER THANK YOU GOODNIGHT.
I think my squee has returned FULL-FORCE. *cheers*
ETA: Now there's
photos! Look at Carl's pointy foot, hahaha, omg.
