Timeline of Development and Events
Cycle I.
June 2010
Kain arrived in Dissidia, at first believing the whole place to be some trial of Mount Ordeals. But it didn't help that he'd been brought there to serve on the side of evil, under Chaos. He was determined not to fall under the control of darkness if he could help it.
July 2010
Kain befriended a dragon, Toothless, and bonded more with him than most others stuck on team Chaos. He spent most of his time otherwise battling mannequins in order to train and grow stronger. The first battle took place, where Kain ran into a transformed Terra, who zapped him with magic when he attacked her. Toothless came in to Kain's defense, and took him off to recover from that attack before going into further battling... and of course to Kain's annoyance he had to meet up with Fang at that time, as well. Chaos lost the battle, which meant enduring the punishment of being still wounded after the battle.
August 2010
In between battles, Kain ran into Haseo, an irritating person who he'd had a few unpleasant exchanges with over the crystals. Unable to turn down a good challenge, Kain leapt at the chance to fight him. But Haseo proved more difficult than he'd have realized. The fight was tough and intense but it ended with Kain dying as a result. He came back to one extremely protective dragon and a new desire for revenge. Kain was then surprised by the arrival of Rosa and Cecil, later in the month. The next battle occurred, and Kain ended up showing his true alliance to his friends when he defended them by turning against those on Chaos' side. He even also defended Terra against some of Chaos' villains. Toothless also came to assist him against Haseo, and Kain eagerly encouraged his dragony friend to chomp on the guy. Although Chaos won that battle, Kain and other traitors were branded as such, Kain's being a blue "X" on his chin.
September 2010
Some of the more villainous types on Chaos' side, including Kefka, Kuja and Dooku, began making evil nefarious plans... and of course working on Kain's Dark Side became part of all of that. The evil plans came into fruition with the capture of several individuals, Terra and Rosa being among them. Kain worked to find information for the Cosmos people, giving them the information they needed on the location of the captives. That of course came with a price, since Kuja then lured Kain into their palace of evil and he and Kefka began to mess with his mind. Toothless soon enough came along to get Kain out, along with Fang, while Cecil and others stormed in to free those who'd been kidnapped.
October 2010
Kain's mind had already been unstable from the events of the previous month, but Toothless being sent home threw him over the edge. Kain lost it, his Dark Side taking over by the time of the next battle. In this battle, powers were also switched. To Kain's delight at the beginning of the battle, he found that he now possessed the ability to shoot powerful lasers. He took full advantage of this and with his Dark Side fully out he began to attack everyone he could. He also made a point of luring Rosa far away from Cecil before he challenged him to a duel. But the battle ended abruptly as one of Kain's new 'abilities' manifested and he WENT KABOOM!!!! exploded. Thanks to Terra having Rosa-powers and acting fast to revive him, he Got Better. And fortunately once he'd returned to life he'd snapped out of the Darkness. He was extremely apologetic about what he'd done. Then he found out Golbez had arrived, which he took to be a punishment of the worst kind. Cosmos also won this battle.
November 2010
An unusual building appeared in both Cosmos and Chaos areas, but its purpose remained unknown at first. Kain began to talk with Terra some more, having gotten to be at least somewhat friendly over the previous months as well. He also heard of a plan to attempt forcing a stalemate between Cosmos and Chaos, something he was eager to try although doubtful it could actually work. He decided he would try to help the effort, but ultimately give more aid to Cosmos than to Chaos.
December 2010
Things quieted down as the expectancy of a potential final battle grew. Kain dreaded and looked forward to the chance of that happening. He also again spoke more with Terra, showing off his less pleasant 'skills' in some training battles against mannequins (Cry and Phoenix being the main ones... Cry being worse for how undignified it is, of course). One of their sessions together also led to a first kiss, but Kain was not able to understand the concept of what that might mean, so he didn't give it much thought beyond that.
January 2011
The mysterious building proved to be a weapons store, to Kain's immense delight. He spent a great deal of time looking through equipment and making sure he had the best that the place had to offer... or at least once he'd fought enough mannequins to afford them. (Which, this being Kain didn't take long). Haseo also returned and Kain's vengeful side once more took over. But Rosa leaving was an upsetting blow to him as well as Cecil... fortunately enough, she reappeared near the end of the month.
February 2011
The next battle, and of course Kain went into it prepared to give it his all. He remained on the fringes of the stalemate group, still providing them with defense as needed, particularly against anyone on the side of Chaos. He also had a run in with Haseo, but it ended more or less a stalemate, with the instability of their abilities. After the battle, Kain assumed Cosmos had won, since his wounds remained like the other times that happened. So he remained in his place for a long while moping, knowing that it meant Rosa and Cecil must have gotten their return home, and Terra as well. Little did he know that wasn't the case. As Kain ventured out, though, he had a lot of difficulty with Cosmos mannequins appearing everywhere. Kain also met up with Terra, who gave him a shield to use in order to deal with the effect he'd had since the first disastrous Haseo battle. He also found out that Cosmos hadn't exactly won either, that she had disappeared just as Chaos had...
March 2011
The Final Battle. Kain went in hoping to take down Chaos once and for all. He encountered the god and engaged in combat, hardly emerging unscathed, but still able to keep fighting. He arrived to attempt helping Terra... in time to see her get killed by Exdeath. This drove him into a deep fury and he tried to activate Phoenix to help her. But as he stabbed at himself to further drive that to happen, Exdeath teleported him away. Bleeding and wounded, Kain once more allowed the darkness to take him over. That of course had to happen at the wrong time, when he'd again crossed Cecil's path. Kain fought against Cecil, but was fast losing steam from earlier injuries. Rosa arrived to help, and together the two knocked Kain out to prevent him doing further harm.
Purification- all memories lost from home and the previous cycle, but the following:
1. The fight that ended in him EXPLODING. (So he'll remember being evil attacking Cecil, and both him and Terra being there when he went KABOOM.)
2. Kissing Terra.
3. Toothless. He'll remember that he once had a dragon buddy there and how friendly they were.
4. Dying that other time. (The whole fight with Haseo).
5. Betraying Chaos by helping free the hostages. (...So just to confuse him, he'll also remember being good and helping people like Terra, Cecil, Rosa, etc).
Cycle II.
May 2011
Kain woke up, again summoned by Chaos. He ran into Cecil and had conflicting memories about him, as well as Haseo, having no doubt that he hated him. Later on he also caught sight of the mysterious green-haired woman from his memories and went to talk to her... hoping that the one human he had a good memory of could help him understand this place.
