A Stressful Day

Yesterday we had to rush our 19 year old cat to the vet. She couldn't use her hind legs properly, especially the left one, and would stumble or fall over when she tried to walk. At first we thought she had broken something, but x-rays showed the bones were fine. They also showed now obvious tumors. He took blood and gave her a shot for pain, ( Read more... )

She seems to be recovering - slowly. Turns out it wasn't a stroke, but a vestibulary incident (I think I got the term right). Anyway, it involves the brain, the middle ear and part of the spine and affects a cat's ability to walk. No known causes, but the good news is that she'll get better on her own, usually within 4-5 days. I'm guessing at her age, it'll take a little longer. I'm sorry to hear about your parents cat Boomer; it's awful that Boomer is paying the price for the vet's mistake. We went to a new vet this time and were very impressed, so I think we'll be sticking with him.
