Traditionally what the extremists of ANY ilk are trying to do is to get the government to react in some fashion, then spin that reaction into something that people will perceive is horrendous and not lawful, regardless of the facts. If they can get an over-reaction-as in, if a massacre occurs in fact instead of spin-they cream their jeans over it. That's the way the extremists work.

Unfortunately it often works-for an example read some histories about the Vietnam War, the coverage thereof, and celebrities' actions-such as Jane Fonda doing a blood drive for the North Vietnamese.

The reading I've been doing has basically said that the current crop of anti-american extremists use the vietnam war as a handbook on how to conduct a PR campaign.

Comparing that to the current things americans are doing - like supporting a mosque being built on the 9/11 site in new york and having the opening day be 9/11 - is certainly eye opening. We are losing ground in the war because we don't even reconize the front its being fought on. (Well, some of us. I certainly didn't 6 months ago.)
