Christianity

I was asked tonight if I was Christian and I realized that I don't know. I really was, and then I really wasn't, and now I'm just me.

I believe that Jesus spoke for God. I'm not sure I believe he was the Messiah. I believe in following his teachings but not necessarily the teachings of Paul, and unfortunately Paul was the founder of the Catholic ( Read more... )

That is very similar to my thoughts. Dead on with Paul, IMO. I do think that Jesus was the son of God and yet God himself, kind of like a clone implanted in Mary. I think that he is a way to heaven and my way, but what I call God is found in different ways by others.

I also believe in reincarnation and many other options. I think Jesus offered an ideal that if we follow life will be better here on Earth and then offered us a way to somewhere else.

I'm floating out in the sea of spirituality without a good label.

Ditto. I'm floating somewhere not too far away, Fate, though not quite within shouting distance.

One of my close friends online has very similar views to that (though she tends to view the Holy Spirit as a particularly metaphysical theoriised concept rather than an actual 'divinity'); the way she puts it is that she's a Christian but without the dogma. [Tho she thinks UU is 'too woolly']

Another one of my friends would say similar things but self-classifies as 'Pagan'.

I've always felt that when you get right down to it, most religions (no matter what they fluff it up with) deal in two major strands :
* treat others as you would want to be treated
* don't fuck the world, it's not (y)ours; we're only transient within it.

bottom line, just call yourself 'religious'. :) [even the word 'spiritual' has connotations].

I'm also not a fan of UU. The problem is, they don't really stand for anything. They seem to be a social club pretending to be a church.

I'd agree that most religions reduce to that. There are some notable exceptions, but many do.

Labels are rarely important hon. As you say, you are you. And your faith is your faith. Enjoy it, embrace it. And may it bring you ever closer to the Divine. :)
