mmm tough tough question....I think the person who is extremely happy should recognize the fact that there partner is miserable if you couldn't read that from them then you truly don't know that person. But if I had to choose I'd rather be hurt myself-I just couldn't bring myself to cheat but then again it's all in how well you know that person if all of a sudden you dont recognize the signs they are giving you or there personality changes then it should be in your heart and be able to suck all the self esteem you have to let that relationship go-BEFORE YOU ARE THE ONE GETTING HURT.....
