I took night bus on the way up ($70) and day bus on the way down ($95). If you book WAY in advance you can get $10 tickets though! Call Intercity Coachlines... http://intercitycoach.co.nz/ the contact details are on there =)

Awwwwesome thanks! I was just looking at the $10 tickets... is it seriously that much each way or something? What do they do, tighly compact everyone into the toilet or in the baggage compartment or something?? =P lol

Nah, if you book it lots in advance you get it for $10, so book in the next couple of days! Everyone else who books closer to the time gets normal fare.
