If you're planning on going all out, you might want to make a dessert that you can make ahead of time. It'll save you time and headaches. Maybe something you can put in the refrigerator or freezer and thaw out. Home made "dove bars" are always good if you have chocolate lovers amongst you.

Hmmmm, that's a good idea. Yeah, I definitely don't want to have to make everything the same day. The dove bars sound great!

I love hosting people for dinner, but it took me a while to learn my lesson and not plan a meal that didn't allow for early prep. I don't know if you're interested but the way I like the bars is to bake brownies, spread a layer of softened ice cream over them, and pop them in the freezer. The you can cut them up, cover them in chocolate, and then chill them until the chocolate sets.

That sounds absolutely yummy. I may just have to do that. Thanks for the suggestion.

But yes, planning and starting things ahead of time is going to be essential here. That's why I was trying to figure out the menu now instead of say, Thursday night when I got home from Boston. That way I also can use this as a possible guilt trip : "But I've been planning this meal all week and I spent all this prep time to do it," so that way they aren't like, "Let's go out to eat," the second they get here. We can go out the next night, most definitely. The other benefit is that if I get everything done, Wendy doesn't have to "help" me. It's not that she's inept in the kitchen, but I have a certain way of doing things.
