Declawing can also lead to other problems. It changes their personalities because they feel vulnerable all of their life. Declawed cats have a tendency to be a bit neurotic.
I used to work for a vet and the worst thing to see was a cat recovering from a declaw. They are in so much pain and they freak out horribly. The vet would put towels over their doors so we wouldn't have to watch them (and to give them some peace and quiet.) He rarely did them thank God!
I am kind of ignorant to the whole declawing thing. I never knew people declawed their cats for years. We always had cats growing up and around me people used to pick up strays and raise them. No one ever declawed them. Then I adopted Soda from a shelter and they said to us in the contract that we promised to not declaw the cat. I said "What is declawing?" Then they told me. I thought "Why would anyone ever do that?" I asked a friend of mine why her cats were all declawed and she said to me "You will see. You too will want to declaw them
( ... )
Poor kitty :( Gorgeous though. And no, neither of my cats are declawed and there's no way in hell (sorry) I'd do it. Even if I do get a little scratch now and then.
No worries! I honestly would euthanize a perfectly healthy cat before I would have it declawed. Of course, if the issue were that I couldn't move into a place w/o declawing, I wouldn't choose to live there even if it were the greatest place EVER other than that issue.
People that mutilate or dump their animals for their own human convenience REALLY PISS ME OFF!!!!!!
