Why are you hiding behind a green apple? Makes you wonder about the implications. Green apples tend to be sour. Are you hiding behind your sourness? However, generally when fruits are "green" it is because they are not yet ripe. You are not yet ripe, which would make you green. Although, one may argue that you try to hide behind your greenness in order to disguise the man which may be ready to ripen. Green can also be jealousy. Hiding behind jealousy. Apples tend to be symbolic in that whole forbidden fruit sense too... But why would you hide behind the forbidden fruit? Well, Adam took a bite out of the fruit because he was scared of being alone. In the painting the man is alone. Could it be perchance that in your solitude you hide behind your sins, almost putting them before yourself, putting the blame on the sin rather than yourself. Pointing the finger, passing the buck. From your appearance you're genuine, respectable, so of course, in shame you hide behind the sin. There's no way a respectable man such as yourself could be ( ... )
