It looked like a normal alley.

That was the problem with things that looked so mundane; they so easily surprised. This alley led out of the Nexus entirely, and into, oddly enough, the middle of a bog ( Read more... )

In this, it appears Shakri's attempt at stealth is doomed from the start.

As all places in the Nexus are interconnected (and the inhabitants of such a place have suitably bad luck, all around), somebody else has apparently stumbled upon the portal or alleyway through which she's found her way.

Literally!

With an unceremonious clatter of metal and a loud "whunch" that sounds suspiciously like the breaking of something organic, there now is a lump of dented, scratched metal and brown leather. It's coughing, from the reeds somewhere behind her. Ow.

The giggling cuts off.

Shakri swears in a low, sibilant sentence and throws herself down from the tree branch. It's a good deal brighter than any swamp-dwelling sprites she's heard of, and that likely means more magical energy is available to it. She doesn't know.

She'd also rather know who the newcomer is; best not to have to fight a battle on two fronts.

Plus, crunchy tends to be bad. So she moves quickly towards the reeds, glancing over her shoulder. The light's gone. "Can you walk? The ground here may not be good."

He glances up. For a moment there's a panicked calculation: how long will it take me to get my sword out with my off-hand, wait did I drop it, maybe I can roll away-- and then it speaks. No movement to attack.

Delita takes the time to unfold his arm from under the rest of his body (he can still move it; probably just a sprain on his wrist) and nods, sitting back on his haunches long enough to gain his bearings.

"I think so." His voice is husky, dazed. Fingers work themselves, open, shut in a fist, open again. "I don't suppose you know where we are."

She glances down at the hand motion, trying to discern if it's the prelude to spellwork or not. "No. I was in a place called the Nexus and didn't realize I was heading for a gate." She's starting to sink in a bit where she's standing, so she sidesteps. "I've only been here about half a minute."

There's a faint giggle and a sort of metallic chiming sound. She looks over sharply, but it must be travelling low to the water now. She can't see it through the reeds. "I don't think that's something that wants to introduce itself."
