I like reading books about bands I don't listen to

They set the scene as if they're telling you: this is important, something magical is going to happen hear. But did any of the twelve people in the room know that then? Sometimes we only see these things when we look back. The thing and the greatness of the thing exist, but not together.

It's a very good question. When do you start loving a song or a band? I'm not sure either. I remember seeing My Chemical Romance at Reading Festival in 2006 - I was there to see Pearl Jam who were headlining. Of course I knew 'I'm Not Okay" but that was it. Then they came onstage and I remember being totally blown away - it's a cliche but it's true. Since then I've been a huge fan of MCR. And they really stood their ground, despite being pelted by bottles thrown by Slayer fans waiting for their band who was due on stage next.

But then....Jeff Buckley. Back when he was still alive and - yes I am *that* old - people were raving about him, and a friend had taped his CD on a cassette for me, those were the days before it was easy to burn CDs, and "Grace" doing absolutely nothing for me. Until one day, maybe it was 2001, 2002, I'm not sure. A documentary on Jeff Buckley was on TV and BANG!, I suddenly *got it*.

So...I don't know. But I agree with you, it's just really fascinating to think of how it happens.
