I listened to the Death Cab for Cutie album Plans on the way to and from the gym. I downloaded it a long time ago, when I first heard "I Will Follow You Into the Dark," which is probably a very terrible idea in the form of a compelling song. I hold Plans very close to my heart. Death Cab is one of my favourite bands, right along side Hanson. Their sound is something that people seem to hate or love, my dad has finally relented and admitted he likes them, even if the name throws him for a loop every time. They have some really nice songs, and some others that are not quite my taste either, but overall, I love them. They're very raw sounding, and most of the songs have meanings that you can enjoy shaping around your own experiences, at least for me. Soul Meets Body was the first song I really loved, and it's probably still my favourite. I had tears in my eyes when I heard it with the Magik Magik orchestra during a live stream show, I unfortunately wasn't able to catch them live this year, due to financial limits, but they are a band that is fantastic live! The albums that preceded Plans were incredible, but I did not like Narrow Stairs, which followed Plans, very much at all. However, Codes and Keys, released last year was fan freaking tastic, totally rekindled my love for ( ... )

I listened to Plans again this morning after I read your comment and decided my opinion about it is positive. I think I was initially unsure about the musical style, and it is very sad. But the lyrics are very dense and poetic and that makes up for any misgivings. Folks often dismiss sad things as whiny, but there's a difference between telling me something sad because you want to make me sad and telling me something sad because it is important and true ( ... )
