Background and Header Help, please!!!

Hey all,
I need desperate help. I've looked at everywhere on this forum for a ccs code and I cant find anywhere it can tell me to add a header with a background easily, everyone of the ccs codes dont work right that I try out. So could anyone help? That would be great thanks!!!! Help me please???

You'll have to change the padding-top:300px; to whatever size your header is.

div{
background: #000000 url(http://www.your-header-image.jpg) no-repeat top center;
padding-top:300px;
}
div div{
background:none;
padding-top:0;
}

Sorry I still cant get it to work, its just not right! I dont know what to do, tears hair out!!!! Anyone got any better ideas?
