First off, I probably won't be updating much here, as I think AO3 is a great place for archiving. But feel free to subscribe to me (that is if you don't mind the shift in fandom over the last few years).
But in order to keep this place from being deleted by LJ at some point, I'm going to do my year-in-fic here rather than my personal journal.
Grand Total Fandoms: 9+ (I won't count MCU as separate from Marvel (Movies) or separate out all the X-Men fic)
Grand Total Stories: 81, including snippets of things in a collected work
Grand Total Word Count: 209685 (according to my spreadsheet, AO3 says 201641)
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
AO3 stats are tricky for this one because I had so much co-written stuff in 2012 that was HUGE, but I did manage to write (or co-write) over 200,000 words, which I think is more than I imagined I would write. I'll probably try to write a bit more next year, but who knows if I'll make it.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
In terms of fandoms, I didn't think I'd write LBD fic, or Pacific Rim stuff. Everything else is pretty much an indication of what I was involved in.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
prisoner of history, maybe even though it's a slightly depressing story.
In terms of being a happily written story,
here at the lonely llama or maybe
and just like any other day.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I tried to tackle a few different narrative techniques and I really like the end results. I also took a leap on some subjects and I think that they turned out well, with the help of some very understanding and patient beta readers.
My best story of this year:
Word Forward, probably. Maybe I just really fell in love with the structure, but it feels like the work that started off the year and it still makes me happy.
My most popular story of this year:
ever after, where I played with a large number of kinks.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
maybe maybe i can share it with you, though that's mostly because it's not strictly a Charles/Erik story and it's subject isn't everyone's cuppa (service submission).
Most fun story to write:
we'll be the sum, because ninemoons42 and I started to bunny each other and it turned into a fun few days.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
I can't even decide from amongst the really explicit stuff, because those moments always meant different things in those contexts. But if I have to give an answer, probably
We Three, for a few reasons that are probably too complicated to answer tonight.
Story with the single sweetest moment:
we'll be the sum - no questions asked. Little boys being sweet little boys!
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Oh jesus! Probably
beg and steal and lie and cheat or
David's Dad (Has Got it Going On). I wrote lots of things that are probably on the dirty!bad!wrong spectrum this year.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
I think Word Forward has shifted so many of my perceptions of everyone in a modern setting, but only because there's so much else that can complicate their lives.
Hardest story to write:
Oddly, Word Forward. I mean, granted most of the writing was done in 2012 and it was posted early in 2013, but man, I had to push myself to finish it. To the tune of a friend watching me as I banged out 8K of story in a few days after Christmas.
Also,
a secret chord that pleased the lord took ages to put together, even though I love the idea of it.
Biggest Disappointment:
I suppose not getting to these two larger works that I've had designs on for a while. November's work schedule took a lot out of me and it's really sad when I only wrote one story then and it wasn't even a long one. But I suppose that those two big stories will see the light of day in 2014 and that's just as good.
Biggest Surprise:
Writing so many lengthy stories; I hadn't written so many stories over 10K than this - I had four (almost 5) stories of that size this year compared to two in 2012.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
Word Forward probably says the most about me as a person in bits and pieces and to varying degrees. There also may be something in a secret chord... but I'm not sure. Someone should probably tell me.
Plans for the next year:
Firstly, those two longer pieces that are dangling over my head. The idea for the next XMen Big Bang, which has the potential to be great, but I need time to let the structure ruminate. Try to meet this year's word count, if not exceed it. Try to also keep writing small things while in the middle of longer pieces to keep myself from being so focused.
