2. A lot of books I think'll get really quite heavy. Not that the shawl couldn't cope, but could you lift it? A lot of widgets seems reasonable. And now halfway in I realize you might mean computer mice, but on first read I was picturing you trying to carry a multidude of little squeakers in a shawl and That would be some feat!
(3. small children with hypothermia should get more than a shawl, since their thermostats aren't quite as functional as those of adults. Even adults, good to provide a warmth-source rather than a way of keeping in what warmth isn't already lost.)
4. Smother the intruder...that's a weird story for another time & place.
5. But can a shawl cut you free when you and Nancy Drew have been kidnapped and tied together back-to-back and you're being driven, blindfolded, to goodness knows where? I think not.
