I quit being on a team, during my freshman year of high school. Then I just did gymnastics for maybe a year without competing. Then i quit altogether.
But the best i could ever do on beam was a routine with a cartwheel and a backwalkover. I don't remember what my mount was but it certainly didn't include a handstand. I was better at floor and vault. I was ok on bars.
I did gymnastics pretty hardcore until I was 10, then my parents decided they didn't want to pay for it any more. Alas. Beam was my least favorite and the uneven bars were my favorite.
Fantastic. You managed to take one word 'depression' and turn it into an entire written piece that is just... Augh. Can't think of the right words. It was just that it wasn't too short, too long, or full of anything extraneous. It was perfect in the way that it sheds a different light on depression. Anyone fighting with it can relate, and anyone not fighting with it can gain a better understanding.
This was a startling piece to read. Especially the end. But it definitely kept my interest.
As a longtime gymnastics fan, I loved being inside your head as you were on the beam, and reading about all the things you can be deducted for, what judges are really like, etc.
Wow. I imagine a person completely composed of fragile glass.
One more thought: I'm suggesting this to the other finalists, as well. You might want to include a link at the bottom to the original entry, so that people can see how much you've changed it.
I was going to do that, but my only concern is that this entry has nothing to do with the other one. I interpreted this topic differently then originally.

Those two events were the worst. I only spoke about the beam here because I was trying to use a balance analogy. The uneven bars were EVIL!
