Lately my apartment seems unfamiliar to me. Everything is foreign and exotic- a pair of vintage canary colored easy chairs stacked like Tetris blocks by the front door, a pile of old National Geographic magazines on the kitchen counter, my cat's tiny pawprint etched gingerly in the layer of dust on the television screen. That is interesting and disturbing. Suffice it to say the situation is incomparable to anything in the U.S.- Middle eastern terrorists are far more likely to be formally trained, and certainly better organized, than the disgruntled school shooters in the States, and they have actual goals and ideals attached to their actions. Also, Israel has mandatory Service, so almost every citizen has years of military training of some kind.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say with that, though. Are you just throwing it out there because I mentioned school shootings? Or are you suggesting that community college faculty should be prepared to shoot students that pose threats?

I know that if there was a shooter at BCC then I would rather have the guards there trained and armed than just standing around like the students when the shots are fired. One armed security guard, or peace officer, could prevent the death of an unknown number of students.

The down side to this is if they arent properly trained they pose just as much of a hazard as a shooter. "oh i thought he was grabbing a gun so i shot him" as a student pulls a TI-89 out of his pocket or something.

Tough call

That argument hinges on the assumption that killing one person is justified to prevent the possible deaths of other people, which I'm not sure I buy (see also: wars of America). I think there are better ways of dealing with things. Violence will never ever prevent violence. It's like multiplying any two numbers trying to get 0. It won't happen.
