I have pop-ups overtaking my computer!! Internet Explorer has gone MAD!! Does anyone know anything about AdWare or anything else that could help me!! AHHH!!!!

It's not affecting Netscape, just Explorer. It slows my computer and is frustrating the heck out of me.

Oh dear ...

Well, my first and most important suggestion would be to throw out your PC and get a mac. However, you may not be inclined to do that as readily as I was. =oP

What's happened, of course, is you've been majorly affected by spyware programs. The most sure way to get rid of them is to backup all the files on your computer and start from scratch.

The second option is to type in Adaware into your search engine and download the free client. Open up the freshly downloaded program, run the update, then run the program. While Adaware works pretty well, it never seems to fully get rid of all the crap, so you have to check for new updates every couple of days and rerun the program.

I wonder how you got the stuff on your computer ... my guess is you have Kazaa? It uploads a ton of spyware programs onto your computer.

Good luck!

I had this same problem with my computer about 2 months ago. I downloaded the google search toolbar, which has a function that will block annoying pop-ups. It works really well for me. The address is http://toolbar.google.com -- it's worth a try. I know how annoying popups can be.

I also would reccomend getting a mac, but I have had this problem with my PC at work, and I've used the aforementioned Adaware software. It's true that it doesn't get rid of everything, so another program that will help out is called spybot. You can also get that free client, however, between the two of them, your computer will continuously pop a window up whenever some part of your software changes. Good for keeping unwanted adware out, but pay close attention, because sometimes you don't want to deny the change...for instance when your virus software does automatic updates. One otehr thing I would reccomend, is checking your browser settings. One of the first things spyware does is change your start page on your browser to a page that will automatically download more viruses. If this is the case, open up your browser, and reset the start page to whatever you want it to be, and leave it open. Then, check your start menu and delete any and all programs that you don't want, that your computer will let you get rid of. After that ( ... )
