My homes. #1 in a series

Here is the house where I grew up: (Google Maps link)

It's the least shiny roofed building in the cluster in the middle of the map.  To the left by the road is the 'top shed' where fruit was packed, and to the right are the shed and the pottery room.  Almost all the fruit trees are gone now, except for some of the plums in a row parallel to the road, and the 'bottom orchard' which I remember helping Dad plant in Braeburns (always orient the largest root towards the prevailing nor-west winds).

Bounding the property to the east (or the bottom, as we called it) is the Makerikeri River, a small freestone stream which stopped flowing in dry years.  Some of my fondest memories of childhood involve playing down at the river, catching cockabullies or making dams.  I once nearly caught a trout by tickling it.

I lived in this house on 'Silverstream Orchard', as the sign on the shop proclaimed, from when I was 1 year old until I left for Uni as an 18 year old.  I'm very grateful to my parents for the quality of life I had as a country-boy, and I hope that our children might experience a childhood as literally idyllic as mine.
