As a Canadian, I read bonnet badge and immediately think of patches on hats. Drippy, freshly painted hats.

Freshly painted? I mean, I know bonnet as in what an olde-timey lady might wear, but I didn't know they were painted.

Well, you said it needed repainting... Bonnet is olde-timey lady head gear, but I think they were normally fabric and unpainted.
