Dandy. A couple people in my family had hemachromatosis, though it was before my time. Apparently, it's often misdiagnosed as an iron deficiency, which ends up causing all sorts of fun when patients start taking iron supplements. (And that's about all I remember from my ninth grade biology research project on it.)
Thanks! Fortunately I hadn't jumped the gun on the diagnosis (knowing that tests were still being done) and hadn't bought or taken any supplements, even though the preliminary diagnosis was anemia. :)
I guess the cause of that particular confusion is that the body is absorbing too much iron out of the blood, so it doesn't show up in the bloodwork.
I'm not big on self-medicating. I prefer to let the doctors tell me what to take... it's why I pay taxes, after all. ;)
