So I finished. Spoilery opinions behind the cut.
The writing and the voice acting were incredible. Cave Johnson is the best character EVER. Every single one of his lines had me cracking a grin. And omg the way GlaDOS says "potato" had me rolling.
As far as gameplay goes, I'm not exactly picky because, let's face it, I'm not that smart. So I was just glad I could solve the damn puzzles, ok. I know some people are bitching because it wasn't hard enough, but what the fuck ever. It was fun, the new elements were cool (I get a weird kick out of the propulsion gel, idk why - probably because I want to try it out myself) and it took me about 9 hours to finish the thing and I immediately wanted to play again afterward, so yeah. I felt like I got my money's worth.
And the end. THE END. I was tearing up for serious. First it's FUCK YEAH, MOON, then GlaDOS SAVES YOU, then she acts like she's all happy you're alive, then she deletes Caroline and I'm like OH SHIT, then she says she's letting you GO, and then the lift stops and there's fucking TURRETS, which start SINGING, and it's a fucking TURRET OPERA. And then when you're finally on the surface and the music gets all quiet and the wheat is billowing in the wind and the door slams, and the camera turns and I was fully expecting GlaDOS to drag me back in, and she SPITS THE CHARRED COMPANION CUBE OUT AND SHUTS THE DOOR. REAL TEARS WERE PRODUCED.
And the end song was glorious. Fuck everyone who says "Still Alive" was better. Can't I like them both?
And Wheatley was adorable. I was expecting for GlaDOS to say that he'd been on her side all along, so I was surprised when he took over the facility. I usually love spoilers but I forced myself to play the whole way through the game without them so I was all surprised and shit.
I haven't played co-op yet because I don't have anyone to play with, sadly. But single player was awesome and I'm going through again because I CAN.
Oh and this isn't really spoilery because it's been out for a couple of months now but The National wrote a song about the Ratman and it's gorgeous. You don't have to be a Portal fan to appreciate it, but for those who are, it makes it all the more special.
