My problem is that when I like characters, I'm never completely sure why, but I can try anyway.
Yukinami's a normal teenager with normal teenager issues, such as a bit shaky self-esteem.And that like an average teenager, kind of fails even at what he knows how to do when he's too stressed. I like the fact that he's a normal person who accidently gets saddled with a really difficult job and doesn't take it in stride at all,stresses over it very much but somehow endures it anyway. I really like characters who are determined and don't give up even if they're really tired of something. (So I pretty much started being fond of him when he told Hyuuga that he's getting frustrated, but doesn't want to quit and just wants to get better at being Ayanami's begleiter.)
I'm also always pinged by loyalty, so I like Yuki for his earnest devotion. He's such a loyal puppy. He'd do anything for people who are important to him. (He doesn't really think he would, but when someone close to him is in danger, he does things without thinking. And that's

His first impression of Kitchel is quite positive. He's met her at the time when he really missed human contact after two weeks in the forest and he really appreciates her offer for help. He kind of wanted to tell her that she doesn’t have to offer, but didn’t really have the chance to do so, and he sort of appreciates that too. (She pings him in toppyness, he is used to/ likes toppy people. Yes, that includes being used to getting topped xD) And she didn’t even seem to mind the embarrassing state of his clothes and hygiene when they first met, so that was a relief as well. He’s also intrigued by her dangerous missions and curious and impressed with her serving a Dragon Lord, because that sounds really important and awesome. He guesses she must be really talented at whatever that is she does and her self-confidence adds to this impression

Deaged!Kaistern was glad to meet Yukinami. He was confused and frustrated at being lost in some weird demon place and Yukinami was very helpful. If he runs into him again, he'll go over to say hello. He's impressed with Yukinami's job and even more with the fact that he's not a stick in the mud like he would have assumed someone in that position would be. Mostly he was just glad to meet a normal, nice, human guy.
Not that normal Kaistern and Yukinami ever properly threaded, but he had a favorable first impression of him as well. While the whole sign deal was annoying, he picked up on the earnestness and general flailing in Yukinami's personality and that's the sort of thing he responds to favorably, especially when the other person is still young.

Yukinami didn't know that Kaistern was deaged (and actually, still doesn't). Even though he might or might not remember talking to someone similar looking during the sign mess, that doesn't really register much (he had a lot on his mind back then because of some important conversations in that post). That's why when he first met young Kaistern, it was meeting a new arrival. So he was sympathetic
