So it strikes me that I haven't been updating all that much. So today I'm doing two. The first one was kinda BS, more a plea for help then a post, so maybe I'll be doing three today. I'm just not sure I have three posts of material ( Read more... )

Waaallll now,

it's worth noting that evolution is a threat to Christianity only if you're talkin' about the fundamentalist-bible-thumping kind. JP 2 was quite forward thinking about that (at least), and considering the responses by many catholics to the rather backwards ideas of one bishop who wrote in to the NY Times, many others are too.
Also, it seems like proponents of ID do want it taught in schools, esp. given the recent nonsense in Kansas.
And generally speaking, it's never a good idea to look for God in the places that science can't explain. In a rather nice article about this by a well-respect God-fearing biologist, he makes the simple point that science tends to explain everything eventually, and saying that because we don't understand something it means God did it just simplifies the debate and gives ammo to passionate atheists, because eventually some scientist will explain unknown phenomenon X, and said atheists will bring it up as an argument. Also, it trivializes religion into being about the validity of folktales.

Actually, they specifically did NOT want ID taught in Kansas. They wanted evolution to be emphasized as a flawed scientific theory. I believe you're thinking of PA who recently approved ID to be taught in schools. When this was done many ID groups wrote to the school boards and the state education board urging them NOT to do this. Kinda interesting.
