At war

I listen to us. We are at war with our bodies. We hate this about our selves. We hate that. It seems we're always at war with our hair.... we fight our hair. We're at war. We are taught to be from a very young age. We are taught there is something wrong with us and without __________ it wont be made right. How can you feel good about your ( Read more... )

this entry was so on point, and so true!

I find that in other countries, women are sooo less self-conscious than we are here. A woman will wear a dress with pot belly and all, and if you don't like how it looks, it doesn't seem like she gives a damn at all. There's something very sexy and liberating in that -- and I can't wait to get there myself!

But you're right, the more you focus on what you like about your body and about your hair (girl I've been there with the hair so I feel your pain) the better you'll feel about you and forget all the capitalist brainwashing.

yes! they ARE less self-conscious. Ive been to many places in this world & American women are a special KIND of jacked up. And isnt it ironic.... we've got more than 90% of the world and we're all full of inadequacies.

and then let's not even TALK bout Black women ...we're at war with our hair & bodies ...at war inside, fighting off despair... then at war with our men, children, whitefolk and world --- tearing up up households with our mouths and attitudes, giving attitude at work, on the street and at the club. Child, we's a mess.

We need to pull it together. We're imploding at the seams.
