stolen from many

1. Your favorite song with the name of a city in the title or text.
The first song that comes to mind is "Omaha" by The Counting Crows.

2. A song you've listened to repeatedly when you were depressed at some point in your life.
"I'm Not In Love" by 10CC spun around my turntable way too many times in High School.

3. Ever bought an entire album just for one song and winded up disliking everything but that song?
There was a band in the late 80's named World Trade. They had a MINOR hot called "The Moment is Here" It was prog-pop. so I bought it. And the album blew. A few days later, I realized that the song that I bought it for in the first place blew ass too..

4. A song whose lyrics you thought you knew in the past, but about which you later learned you were incorrect.
In the fruity England Dan and John Ford Coley hit, "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight", I was convinced for years that the opening line to the chorus is, "I'm not talking about the linen". And I'm still sure that the last line in the first verse of, "Just The Same Way" by Journey is "Every day, we will fuck"...not "Every day, we will FLY".

5. Your least favorite song on one of your favorite albums of all time.
"Zak and Sara" by Ben Folds...off "Rocking the Suburbs"

6. A song you like by someone you find physically unattractive or otherwise repellent.
"The Last Time I Saw Richard", and many other songs, by the eternally unattractive Joni Mitchell.

7. Your favorite song that has expletives in it that's not by Liz Phair.
I won't say "Just The Same Way" by Journey, since that's still alleged. "Marilyn" by Dan Bern is the first song that comes to mind.

8. A song that sounds as if it's by someone British but isn't.
Most of the Green Day calatog. I can't get more creative than that.

9. A song you like (possibly from your past) that took you forever to finally locate a copy of.
The best I can do is, "Kick the Wall" by Jimmy Davis and Junction. It's another song that helped me through a breakup. I recently wanted to hear it, and looked for it for months...and finally found the video on YouTube. Not quite "locating a copy"...but I got to finally hear it again, so I was stoked anyways.

10. A song that reminds you of spring but doesn't mention spring at all.
"Everywhere I go" by The Call. Was a radio single in the spring of '86.

11. A song that sounds to you like being happy feels.
"Passenger Seat" by Death Cab For Cutie. An incredibly simple, relaxing, mellow, beautiful song about taking a car ride with your significant other.

12. Your favorite song from a non-soundtrack compilation album.
"Hold On" by Sarah McLachlan. I almost didn't want to give credit to any song named "Hold On", cuz it's such a generic title. Before this was released on "Fumbling Toward Ecstasy", it came out on the AIDS charity disk, "No Alternative".

13. A song from your past that would be considered politically incorrect now (and possibly was then).
"Short People", by Randy Newman. People would be outraged if this was released in 2006...which is why it's the greatest song ever!

14. A song sung by an overweight person.
"Wait For an Answer" by Heart. I loved this song when it was originally released in the late 80's...and haven't heard it since.

15. A song you actually like by an artist you otherwise hate.
I'm not a White Stripes fan in the least...but they have an amazing live cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene".

16. A song by a band (whose members actually play instruments) that features three or more female members.
Get ready to send in the Wuss Patrol. "Eternal Flame" by the Bangles. The bridge of that song always moved me.

17. One of the earliest songs that you can remember listening to.
"Someone Saved My Life Tonight"- Elton John. I remember playing it for my friends, and laughing in shocked amusement at the line, "It's 4 o'clock in the morning, dammit"..as if he said the most offensive word ever.

18. A song you've been mocked by friends for liking.
"The Winner Takes it All"- ABBA

19. A really good cover version you think no one else has heard.
Since I already mentioned "Jolene"...Sinead O'Connor's cover of Elton John's "Sacrifice". Her goal was to reflect the emptiness of the lyric. She succeeded.

20. A song that has helped cheer you up (or empowered you somehow) after a breakup or otherwise difficult situation.
"Funky Ceili"- Black 47. Always cheered me up after a breakup.

21. A song you've listened to while fucking/masturbating.
Usually the soundtrack to that is the sound of silence...not "The Sound of Silence"...but the sound of silence.

22. A song not in English -- preferably a foreign-language version of an English-language hit.
Drawing a blank.
