Hiking

Went to Seattle with Sierra this weekend. Hung out with her parents and brother and went hiking with her dad and recorded it with the "My Tracks" Android app, which let me upload it to Google Maps: the 7.6 mile Hansville hike. Good hike & good app.

Back to SF tonight.

I love the MyTracks app but I've found that having the GPS active kills my battery so fast that I'm weary of leaving it running while I'm on a long walk since once the battery is dead I not only lose the ability to log GPS (which I can live without) but also the ability to make phone calls and use Google Maps, both of which I care more about when I'm out in the middle of nowhere in a place I'm unfamiliar with.

Does that new phone you're using fare better with battery life than the G1 while logging with MyTracks?

The real question is, how did you keep your Android running for 7.6 miles of GPSr usage? My battery would have died. :)

I agree, though. My Tracks is a good app.
