ooh! i really want an ereader, but i figured it'd be too expensive a purchase, because i thought you actually had to buy all the books you wanted to read on it, and i like to get my books from the library for free. i'm cheap, see? but if libraries are stocking ebooks now, i can't afford NOT to get one! i don't think SD libraries are stocking them yet - at least not that i've seen. what about renewals? are there any sort of weird restrictions on those since they are in an electronic format? half the time i don't get my reading done in two weeks time and always wind up renewing at least once, if possible.
Hmmm. I'm not sure those NetLibrary ones would work. I think they're mostly for reading on a computer. On the BPL site, the downloadable books and NetLibrary are quite separate: http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/ebooks.jsp... )
Little tip, perhaps for el__guapodennis_obellJanuary 5 2009, 12:58:59 UTC
If you're desiring the Sony Reader rather than the Kindle, you might want to know this: The way I purchased bradamant's was I signed up for a Sony Style VISA card, and they have a deal where if you buy something for $299 (the exact price of the Reader) they instantly give you $100 back (shows up as a credit on your billing statement). With tax and shipping, I ended up paying only $225 for the Reader. I plan to throw the Sony card in a drawer and probably cancel it some months from now.
My problem with anything made by Sony is that...it's Sony. I vowed never to spend a dime on Sony hardware after the rootkit debacle, and my resolve has only hardened after a recent infuriating event
