Buffy/Angel Lovin'

My favorite 'ship is obviously Buffy and Angel... and clearly I had way too much time on my hands today, but if you are interested read all about it.

Buffy/Angel Lovin':

Welcome to the Hellmouth:

Buffy: Who Are You?
Angel: Let’s just say I’m a friend.
Buffy: Yea, well maybe I don’t want a friend.
Angel: Didn’t say I was yours…

And so the love affair of Buffy and Angel begins. Although it was later revealed that Angel had followed Buffy to Sunnydale, this was their first face to face meeting. Angel gave Buffy a silver cross necklace to protect her from the vampires, as well as some mysterious advice. Buffy’s life would never be the same after her first encounter with the mysterious Angel.

Angel:

Angel: Look this can’t...
Buffy: ...ever be anything. I know. For one thing, you're, like, two
hundred and twenty-four years older than I am.
Angel: I know.
Buffy:  You okay?
Angel:  It's just...
Buffy: …painful. I know. See you around?

The pain of the beginning and quick end of Buffy and Angel’s relationship was both emotionally painful, and physically painful as the camera panned down to reveal Buffy’s crossed burned into Angel’s chest. Whether or not they wanted to admit it, Buffy and Angel were drawn together. And as wrong as they were for each other, nothing was going to stop it. Not even them.

Halloween:

Angel: I always wished I could meet someone... exciting…interesting…
Buffy: Really, interesting...how?

By Halloween in season 2, Buffy and Angel’s non relationship had become one. Their feelings had grown, and although he was a mystery to her, she felt herself falling. They spent time together, had gone to the Bronze for coffee, and were becoming very close.

Lie to Me:

Angel: Do you love me?
Buffy: I love you. I don’t know if I trust you.

Angel’s past had begun to come back to haunt his and Buffy’s relationship, and Buffy was constantly reminded of Angel’s deeds by her new enemies, Spike and Drusilla. Buffy had already fallen for Angel, and he for her, even though they both knew that a vampire and a slayer could never be.

Surprise:

Angel:  Buffy, maybe we shouldn't...
Buffy:  (stops him) Don't. Just kiss me.

Buffy had fallen completely in love with him despite those things he had done in his past, and knew she could fully trust Angel by now. On the night of her 17th birthday, she and Angel made love for the first time. It would be their last, because their moment of happiness triggered an ancient curse to punish Angel. His soul was ripped away from him and he reverted to his former evil self. Buffy was heartbroken. She had destroyed the man she loved by simply making him happy.

Becoming Part 2:

Buffy: I love you. Close your eyes.

Angelus had worked to destroy the world and begun Acathla’s spell of destroying the world. The only way for Buffy to stop Acathla was to send Angel to hell in the world’s place. At the very last minute, though, Willow’s spell restored Angel’s soul and he and Buffy were reunited. But she knew what she had to do. She told him she loved him, kissed him, and killed him.

Beauty and the Beasts:

Angel: Buffy, Buffy, Buffy...

After haunting Buffy in her dreams after "killing" him in Becoming Part 2, Buffy comes face to face with Angel for the first time. He came to her rescue, and after destroying the villain, he dropped to his knees and cried her name. Angel had somehow returned to Buffy, even though she knew their relationship would never be the same as it was before.

Amends:

Angel: Am I a thing worth saving? Am I a righteous man? The world wants me gone.
Buffy: What about me? I love you so much. I tried to make you go away. I killed you and it didn’t help. And I hate it. I hate that it’s so hard... and that you can hurt me so much. I know everything that you did... because you did it to me. God angel, I wish I wished you dead. I don’t. I can’t.

Angel had finally grown accustomed to his life again, but was feeling the guilt of his past life. It took Buffy to convince him he belongs in this world. We all suffer, well have ghosts to deal with. It took Buffy and a Christmas miracle to save Angel from killing himself when the sun came up on Christmas morning. It snowed in Sunnydale for the first time ever.

The Prom:

Buffy: I never thought you'd come.
Angel: It's a big night. I didn't want to miss it. It's just tonight.  It doesn't mean that I ...
Buffy: I know. I mean, I understand.
Angel: Dance with me?

Angel and Buffy knew they had to move on from each other, even though their love was so strong. Angel decided to end things with Buffy… he left her to make it easier for her. But he showed up at her prom for one last dance.

Graduation Day 2:

Angel: If we get through this… I’m just gonna go.

After the big fight, Buffy and Angel have a silent goodbye, and then she watched him walk out of her life. She knew it was for the best, yet it didn’t hurt any less.

Coda: I Will Remember You:

Buffy: How am I supposed to go on with my life… knowing what we had… what we could have had?
Angel: You won’t. No one will know but me.
Buffy: Everything we did?
Angel: It never happened.
Buffy: It did. It did! I know it did. I felt your heart beat…
Angel: Please Buffy, please…
Buffy: I’ll never forget. I’ll never forget. I’ll never forget…

Buffy went to visit Angel in Los Angeles, and Angel was attacked by a demon that made him human again. Buffy and Angel could finally be together and be happy. After spending a day in bliss, Angel realized it was too good to be true. He couldn’t sacrifice his life of helping others to selfishly be with Buffy. He went to the Oracles and begged them to turn him back... and they erased the day. No one but Angel carries the memory of their day together.

Watching her cry “I’ll never forget” was probably the most poignant moment of Buffy and Angel’s time together. And she never did remember after all. But I always will. Buffy and Angel will always live on in my heart.
