It depends on context. The 'right thing' is often a matter of perspective

That depends quite heavily on perspective. Who can know what is right in time, or given even the slightest difference in circumstance?
I think the most you can hope for is to do what you believe is right and have the sympathy and understanding of those effected by it.

You have pretty good judgment, I think you will make the best decision given the circumstances, but like Jan said, can you be more specific?
