What kind of work do you want to do in your heart of hearts? By this I mean what would you like to do if you could? Also, What kind of work have you been doing? God knowsw I've been (and still am somewhat) in this position of needing work and money. Are you interested in temping? I'll warn you its hardly scintillating BUT there are agencies that specialize in different areas such as graphic design if that's where you want to go. If it is I've also temped at some places you may want to apply to but hadn't thought of yet.
Let me know too and ill rack my brain and come up with some ideas if you're interested.
Also consider working for free to build up your portfolio, such as creating stuff for bands and other artists (groups that are always in need of graphic design work). You said you can create websites so look into that for some money for now. Right now I'm doing that writing reviews for free just to get published and build a portfolio.
