Fever

Would I know if Connor had a fever? I mean, besides the obvious of taking his temperature? Our stupid ear thermometer just went dead, and we can't get the battery out. We have the one that goes under the arm, but you have to hold it there for 60 second. HA! Like he'll let me do that... I think we made it to 30 seconds ( Read more... )

I hate to say it, but you need to go rectal.

It's so much more accurate than any of the others and surprising A LOT easier to use than you would think. Cam doesn't even flinch. He hasn't been sick often, but the couple times he has been nothing registered on the ear or forehead thermometer, but did on the butt one.

Fifth's Disease is going around pretty strong and the only real sign of that is red cheeks (like his been slapped). No worries though, it goes through school like crazy every year and I don't think it is serious at all (unless you are pregnant).

Fifth disease begins with a low-grade fever, headache, and mild cold-like symptoms (a stuffy or runny nose).

Hmm.. this does sound like what he has! I emailed you earlier today re: the runny nose. Of course I have no idea if he has a headache... I'll have to take a picture of him tomorrow and you can let me know if you confirm your diagnosis. It will save me $15 at the Dr's. ;)

My sister called last week to say my neice had it. She woke up and her face was red and puffy so she took her to the doctor who diagnosed her with Fifth's. I mentioned it to a friend I teach with and she said that there are a ton of kids with it at school right now. I swear every year there is a mass epidemic. There isn't much you can do though because by the time the cheeks look flushed they are no longer contagious. I think they also are achey a few days before so if you remember him being cranky earlier in the week it might explain it.

I did get your email...did you get my reply?

I hope no matter what is wrong with C, he is feeling better by morning! DD had a fever tonight with no other major symptoms- a little lethargic and slightly pink cheeks- but the ear therm said 102.8 in both ears. I gave her Tylenol and she went to sleep with zero fuss. I am calling the Ped in the morning to get her in.
