And know that
They belong.

“You really love it here, don’t you?”
Clark smiled as he leaned on the porch railing of the Kent farmhouse. Lois was sitting in the creaking swing as dusk began to settle on the farm. The sky was a soft melon color, streaked with rose-pink and a touch of lemon-yellow. Lois had to admit that it was beautiful.
“I do.” Clark’s voice was affectionate. “I was Jonathan and Martha Kent’s son. Still am,” he said with a chuckle. He folded his hands together.
“You’re one of the townsfolk.”
“Yes, I am.”
Lois smiled. “A real native.”
“Mom and Dad found me in the cornfield, after all.”
“Wow, like finding a baby in the cabbage patch.”
Clark laughed. “Droll, Lois, droll.”
“Well, sweetheart, that’s my specialty.”
“Droll Lo.”
“Snarky Clarkie.”
“Insane Lane.”
“Bent Kent.”
“See, this fresh air is doing wonders for you.”
“Yeah, yeah.”

Lois exited the Cushing house. Kyle’s pronouncement that she was ‘good people’ and that he was glad that she was part of the town stuck with her.
She remembered that evening with Clark on the porch not so long ago. Despite Clark’s obvious ‘difference’, he had a place here. Small towns could be clannish, but once they accepted you, you were really in. Clark was part of something here. Growing up here was important.
She looked up at the sky, worried about her husband. After the confrontation with Edge and the Kryptonians, he could be hurt. The expulsion of so much energy needed to defeat them could weaken even Superman.
Clark, this town needs you. I need you.
Lois walked to her pick-up truck and called her sons to join her. It was different growing up as an Army brat. You were part of a large organization, though you did meet people you would see again as you went from base to base. If you stayed in the Army, you would eventually meet everyone again, so it was sort of a small town, just a moveable one.
Lois started the pick-up truck’s engine and drove out to the road. They had all saved the world, but they had saved Smallville most of all. The grateful citizens would never know that one of their own had saved them.
Lana had a huge part in this, too. I can see why Clark had been attracted to her all those years ago. Hey, I find her sexy.
Lois smiled. Lana was someone she would gladly share a foxhole with.
She kept checking the sky, hoping to see any sign of Superman. Jordan and Jonathan were laughing and teasing next to her, trying to keep things light-hearted. No doubt they were still pretty shaken up.
C’mon, Clark, where are you?
“That was so cool, Dad just smashing into the whole gang,” Jordan said.
“Yeah, and everyone just crashing to Earth. Way cool,” added Jonathan.
Lois drove by tall stalks of corn instead of skyscrapers. At least she could see more stars out here with the lack of light pollution.
Wonder where Krypton used to be?
She kept her eye out for any stray animals crossing the road. She had no desire to contribute to any roadkill café.
In one way, Kyle’s acceptance of her was funny. Most small towns considered you an outsider even if you resided there for decades, but Kyle had accepted her after mere months.
Maybe I am fitting in. Jordan’s got a girlfriend and he and Jonathan were on the football team. They’re starting to settle in despite the Kryptonian craziness.
She smiled at the banter of the boys as she drove.
Well, they had all saved Smallville. Maybe Clark’s wife and sons could really claim citizenship now. And Clark being grounded here easily translated to his defense of all the Earth. Edge and the Kryptonians were out of luck recruiting Clark.
The Kent family rattled along in the old pick-up truck under the stars.
